Shafa Furniture

Our Story

Our story

Shafa Furniture Ltd was incorporated in 1990, but the journey of its director, Saleem Bola, began when he was just 11 years old. Coming from a very humble family and being the son of disabled parents, Saleem, now 50, was forced to leave school after the CPE. “I am the youngest in my family, with an older sister and a younger brother.

We lived in very modest conditions, and my parents couldn’t afford to send me to secondary school. They both suffered from a disability. So, I had to leave school after primary to support my family financially”

Our story

In 1980, Saleem started working as an apprentice carpenter in a relative’s workshop. Despite having no prior knowledge of carpentry, Saleem learned the basic techniques and later advanced his skills while working for a larger company.

Our story

In 1990, following the death of his father in a road accident, Saleem decided to take control of his future. Without a proper place to work, Saleem started his own business under a mango tree in his family yard, taking orders for custom-made furniture.

Gradually, Saleem built a reputation in the industry and began investing in machinery with financial support from a furniture store he worked for.

Our story

Saleem spent his youth working hard and making sacrifices to improve his situation.

By 1999, Saleem had saved enough to buy land in Triolet, where he built a spacious workshop.

With a loan from the Development Bank of Mauritius, Saleem acquired more machines. Saleem joined the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) and participated in various trade fairs, gaining experience and visibility for his company both locally and internationally.

Our story

In 2011, Saleem registered his company as Shafa Furniture Ltd, and in 2015, Saleem’s son joined the business. Together, they modernized the company, introduced new furniture models, and expanded their product range.

Today, Shafa Furniture Ltd offers a variety of products including complete kitchen sets, decorative items, bedroom furniture, doors, sofas, office furniture, flooring, and false ceilings. The company uses high-quality wood and innovative solutions to meet customer demands.

Our story

Saleem’s journey has had its ups and downs, including an accident that cost him four fingers on his right hand. Despite these challenges, Saleem remains proud of his achievements.

The success of Shafa Furniture Ltd has led to the construction of a second, much larger workshop in Arsenal. Employing about thirty workers, mostly Bangladeshi expatriates due to labor shortages in Mauritius, Saleem plans to expand his workforce further after the new workshop is completed.
